😬 Best Team in Baseball? We Just Beat ’Em.
The Rays took two of three from MLB-leading Detroit and kept their heater alive—capping a week that included a franchise-record comeback and a sweep of the Mets.
🗓 GAME 1 — Friday, June 20
Rays 14, Tigers 8
Yandy Díaz said “We’re the best team in MLB,” then backed it up by launching two homers in a 3-hit night. It was only his second career multi-homer regular season game—but he wasn’t alone in the fireworks. Matt Thaiss drove in four, Curtis Mead reached base five times, and every single starter recorded a hit in the Rays’ third-highest scoring game of the year.
“I simply feel good. I'm trying not to think too much when I go to the batter's box, and you guys are seeing the results.” – Yandy Díaz
🗓 GAME 2 — Saturday, June 21
Rays 8, Tigers 3
From Olive Garden to the Show: 6’10” Paul Gervase made his MLB debut with two scoreless innings as the Rays cruised. Taylor Walls and Brandon Lowe each drove in runs, Caminero and Morel went yard, and Ryan Pepiot shoved five strong to clinch the series.
“They're doing it in different ways every single night... it's expected at this point, but it's fun to watch.” – Ryan Pepiot
🗓 GAME 3 — Sunday, June 22
Tigers 9, Rays 3
You don’t win ‘em all—and for 8 innings, this was still anybody’s game. Caminero tied things in the 4th with his 19th homer, but a rain-soaked 9th turned chaotic. Project pickup Forrest Whitley entered and gave up a six-spot as the Tigers avoided the sweep. Still, Zack Littell was nails through five, and Yandy extended his hit streak to 13 games.
🔥 TAY’S TAKE:
This team has a spine. In one week:
Swept the NL’s best Mets in Queens.
Tied a franchise comeback record vs. Baltimore.
Took a series from the MLB-best Tigers.
As Curtis Mead put it:
“We want to challenge ourselves against the best teams—because that's who we're gonna play in the playoffs.”
And Yandy? He said it best:
“For the past month, we've been the best team in baseball.”
